What better way to spend a cold winters day than snuggly in front of a movie...

Marchant Ridge

Wicket and I did a great trip up onto Marchant Ridge. This area was destroyed by fire in 1938 and is still known as "The Burn". 70 years later the dead remnants of the old bush still stand above the regenerating younger trees. The initial plans to descend into the Eastern Hutt River had to be abandoned when the dogs batteries went flat mid afternoon. This meant we had to camp at over 1000m and it was a cold night, so the dog slept wrapped in my swandry and stuffed in my pack...

Hutt Forks

Another fantastic spring (almost) day and Wicket and I head for the hills.

In detention after doing a runner up the hill after a deer.

Western Hutt River at Hutt Forks - a splendid 4 hour hike from Kaitoke.

The view from the ridge shows Upper Hutt City and beyond to Wellington City with the Inland Kaikoura Range in the far distance.

Zoo trip

Deciding at the last minute to take advantage of a lovely spring day, Cat, Al, Matt, Indy and Saff trundled into Wellington Zoo. When the slideshow below has finished, click on it to see it again. Click on a photo while it is running to go to the web album to see them in bigger format.

Remote controlled boat at Heretaunga Park

After a frosty start, it was a clear, warm spring day. Just right for an afternoon at the park. Model boat kindly donated by uncle Paul.
