Ohakune Trip 2011

Drove up to Ohakune on Friday night arriving about 9:00pm. Only 2 others in the lodge so we scored our usual bedroom (affectionately known as the dungeon). The boys really wanted to try snowboarding, so first thing Saturday morning we took off up the mountain. As Turoa required 4WD or chains we shot around to Whakapapa only to find the top carparks full and the road closed. So parking at the Chateau we caught the shuttle bus and arrived at the ski field in warm sun with no wind.
Packed shuttle bus.
The top of Happy Valley learners area.

Chilling out back at the lodge. On Sunday morning I was up before light and walked to Waitonga Falls. It was clear and calm, but -6 degrees. The more "arty farty" photos taken on this walk will be on albeephoto soon.
The required traditional shot at the carrot, and then a trip to the National Army Museum in Wiaouru.
